Brother North I'm glad you shared that experience on your blog. Garry and I have also become great supporters of our 2nd Amendment and have been target shooting every Saturday at Buckeye. If you would like to go with us give us a call. It is so important you are prepared for the unknown. I was so afraid but now that I have my own 38 Special and a 22 Ruger rifle I'm getting better at it with practice. So glad everything was safe with your family. Kay

Oh yeah I was also going to suggest you read Gavin de Becker's "Gift of Fear" if you haven't already. It sounds very similar to what you were talking about being aware of your surroundings. Patricks dad (a Colonel in the army) gave each of his kids a copy of that. It's pretty good. :)

That is just too great! I am glad that you still protect the women in your life. You sure were a great protection for me back in the day.
I too am grateful for my gun.
Tim has felt similarly to you and has many knifes around, etc. He is also attempting to study Ninjitsu in order to better protect us.
I am grateful for men like you and Tim who take action and don't just sit around and wait for bad things to happen.

I finally just stumbled upon your blog. My kids do the same thing. they drag the stroller into the house and sit in it. Go figure. They also just go out to the garage to just sit in it.

As for nascar, it must be the combination of speed and the circles that are being driven Iimagine if you sit close enough to the actual track that you could induce a whiplash like injury when the cars go past, or you just get dizzy...

Dear Phil,

My father is a retired police officer. I recall many times I have been in the car with him and when another car stops far behind the white line at a traffic light, the stop sign, or the car in front of them, he says if he were on duty he would pull them over...but not for the reason you think, which is probably plain ol' stupidity. Apparently, if an officer sees that behavior, it is a sign of drunk driving and it gives them "probable cause" to pull them over and check alcohol levels!
So, next time it happens, you can rest assured you aren't just driving next to a dummy, but a drunk dummy.

We cautious and slightly paranoid people, stop before the white line and this is what we're thinking, "If the crazy person behind me on my bumper hits me, I still have 4 feet before I slide into oncoming traffic." Hope that helps.
With the TV, sometimes you just have to shut it off and say that you're going on a surprise walk or something. What I can't understand is when I say I'm going to read a book, go pick out a book, that my older one will sometimes say, "that's OK, I'm playing" or something.

Tearese—Well, a guy in London who seemed to me to be well versed on the subject said it relates back to hat makers. They also refer to their big pins as "weasels" and so they made a pop sound as they stitched through the hat. He gave me lots more detail that I don't remember. Of course I've heard different lyrics and interpretations (Cockney rhyming slang for pawning off your coat for money) which also seem believable. Well, I don't know for sure but at least it came from something real somewhere in London. And as far as the extra child, it really is already getting easier with the three of them. It's hardest at the beginning when you're getting into the swing of things. I'm already going to multiple stores with all three of them and surviving:) We figure a newborn equals a few months of torture (hey, sleep deprivation is used as torture!) and then getting used to it and then they really get fun. They're really cute when they're small, though, even if they aren't as accommodating as I would like.

Three definitely takes you to a whole new level of how insane things can get, doesn't it? I never felt that way with two. Mine are spaced further apart, so I'm sure I can't even quite relate completely ... but as I read this perfect post I just kept thinking, "Amen. AMEN."
